shopaholic and the lesson behind it
Today while having discussion with my friends, suddenly one of my friend ask me to lend her my shopaholic novels. I did told her about the novels before. Well, it seems like she is interested to read the book after I introduce her to the book the other day.yea!!Maybe I should give some comments regarding the novels in my blog. Actually they are my lil sister's collections. There are five novels all together and the writer's name is Sophie Kinsella.
The first novel, entitled Confession of Shopaholic has introduce Becky as an ordinary girl who work as a financial writer in a magazine. She is extremely shopaholic until you couldn't imagine that there is a human being living on this earth who is having bad shopping habit like that. No matter how hard she try to control her spending as she is broke, she still buy herself something...just a little something. She's been chased by dismal letters from VISA and the bank. I bet you, when you read this novel you will feel the pressure of holding the burden. You will not be mad at her because of her bad habit as she is so sweat and funny and she just can't control money like normal people do. The story end with happy ending. She is not only able to get extra money because of good article she made, she appear great on TV. People will find you giggle to yourself while reading this novel.
The second novel, entitled shopaholic takes Manhattan is a follow up of the first novel. Becky found her lover at the end of the first novel. Her boyfriend brought her to New York. There, Becky became a financial expert who appear on TV in NY. Thus, she became more glamour. However, her bad habit of shopping has been exposed in newspaper. Of course the ending of the story will not disappoint you.
The third novel, entitled shopaholic ties the knot. Becky is having conflict here weather to get married in her hometown or in NY. At the end, she will get married at both places. Wanna know how?read yourself lah..lazy to tell already.
The fourth novel, shopaholic and sister. Becky is coming back from honey moon, knowing that she has a long lost sister. Her sister trace her family because she is having blood disorder. Becky was so excited to have a sister. However, her sister is so not like her. They were totally different. Becky likes to shop while her sister hate shopping so much.
The fifth novel, entitled shopaholic and baby. This time she is not only shopping for her, but she also shopping on behalf of her baby. The conflict of the story is when the obstetrician she booked is actually her husband's ex. Do you think her husband is a loyal husband to her? Is her bad habit of shopping will cause her husband hate her or love her as the way she is.
So, what are the lesson that we can take from this stories? In my opinion, to become a good Muslim, it is fine to spend our money but do not spend too much for ourselves. Think of our brothers and sisters in PALESTINE before you spend for yourself. While we are having many 'lauk' for iftar during Ramadhan, they are having limited food in their tent. We should take the story of 'sahabat' for our guidance. Lets have a look of a story of one 'sahabat' named Abu ad-Darda'. He is a businessman who always make a lot of profit. One day, Saidina Umar visit him at his house. They are sitting in the dark as there is no source of light in the house. While having conversation, Saidina Umar tried to revealed how is the condition of Abu Darda' at that time by touching things surrounding them. Then,Saidina Umar realized that, the pillow of Abu Darda' is only a fabric used to put on the camel/horse. His mattress is only the stony floor. Then, Khalifah Umar r.a said:"didn't I send you allowance for you to spend?" Abu Darda' did not answer to him instead, he said: "Didn't you remember one hadith by Rasulullah s.a.w?". "What is it?"asked Umar r.a. "Didn't Rasulullah said that one must take their worldly need as if they are a traveler?", said Abu Darda'."It's true."Said Umar in return. Then Abu Darda' continue, "what have we done after Rasulullah left us, ya Umar?". Hearing that, Khalifah Umar shed into tears together with Abu Darda' until fajr prayer. After Abu Darda' passsed away, Auf, another sahabat had a dream. In the dream, he saw a garden with a dome. Suddenly, Abdul Rahman B Auf pop out his head from the dome. He said,"This is a reward from the LORD. If you stand here, you'll see something that your eye never seen, you will hear something that you never heard before and you will get everything that you never got before.Auf asked," for whom this reward ya Abdul Rahman?". Abdul Rahman said,"Allah s.w.t prepare this reward for Abu Darda' because he put aside worldly material with both his hand and his heart. So, lets improve our ibadah and do a lot of sadaqah especially during this ramadhan.
